So i insisted him to pick me up. We were undecided on the place to eat. His girlfriend suggested a new claypot rice restaurant in Damansara Jaya. And so we headed to that direction.

Seeing the relatively huge crowd at the Choong Kee Kampar Claypot Rice Restaurant, we were further convinced that it will satisfy our taste buds. And so we parked the car, came out, marched into the restaurant and sat down, in the midst of the packed place.

It seems that this Choong Kee Claypot Rice Restaurant only serves CHICKEN RICE, as you can see in this menu below. It was during this photo was taken that the obnoxious, irritated, ill-mannered lady boss started shouting at me.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXNGWwR2F0I/AAAAAAAAAFk/Cdcz8CNEi64/s400/Choong+Kee+Claypot+Rice+Menu.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292651343821281090" />

"SIN SANG! LEI JOU MAT CHART ARR? DIM GAI LEI YING NGOR GEH SIONG ARR?" (Sir, wtf you think you're doing? Why the heck are you snapping my photos?)

Despite feeling slightly embarrassed & pressured, i kept my cool, smiled & tried to sugar-coat my intentions. That didn't kept her from cursing at me further.

"NGOR WAH JI LEI HAI GEI JEH, LI DOU MM TAK YENG SIONG! TIUNIASING!" (I don't give two hoots even if you are a reporter! NO PHOTO-SNAPPING HERE! #$%^&*!!)

We pretended as if nothing happened, and sat down while waiting for our food to come. As our claypot rice with other sides dishes came, i was about to unleash my camera when my friend stopped me. "Dude, the b*tch is looking this way. Keep your camera, man!"

It could have been a good experience had the illiterate lady boss did not behaved that way. I would have written something nice about her dishes. I mean, come on, i have to admit that the claypot rice was overall OK. But she misunderstood me for trying to steal her already-overloaded-in-the-market recipe. & her facial expression was as if she is gonna @$$rape me if i take another photo of her intellectual property.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXNGXNNUE8I/AAAAAAAAAFs/fhabnXKqu0k/s400/Choong+Kee+Claypot+Rice.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292651351586902978" />

Restaurant details:

Address:

80, Jalan SS 22/25, Damansara Jaya, 47400, PJ

Tel: 017 - 871 7739

Business Hours: 11am - 2.30pm, 5pm - 9.30pm

Cuisine: Chinese

Pricing: 5/10

Cleanliness Factor: 7/10

Service: -25/10 (LEI YAU BOU ARR? Choices were made based on the menu, & of course i seized the opportunity to blog about it.

Ambiance was the typical Chinese restaurant, with some tables seated by a bunch of loud & rough businessmen, some with families of toddlers & grannies. While waiting for the food to come (& getting $hit-stirred by colleagues in front of my boss), we were served with some "Acar" (refer to my previous post). Tasted not quite funky as i thought so. Hmm... room for improvement.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXISFtUxMqI/AAAAAAAAAD0/UsX3Bqoivd4/s400/acar.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292312401389105826" />

Then came the 1st dish; "The Prosperity Yee Sang(鱼生)". Apparently, this raw fish salad was invented by the Teochews (my clan, eh?). Usually in a table, the diners gather around the table to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks in order to raise 'good luck', or "Lou Hei(捞起) for the new year. And you will see kiasu people tossing as high as possible because it is a common belief that high tossing means high prosperity. It tasted relatively okay compared to Yee Sang in many other restaurants.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXITd1H0kkI/AAAAAAAAAD8/0ruZ1z2A_z8/s400/Yee+Sang.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292313915310772802" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIUNxwf1bI/AAAAAAAAAEE/GyzkcDXGxQc/s400/Lo+Hei+Yee+Sang.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292314739041359282" />

Next was the Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Seafood. I must say this is actually quite a nice value-for-money shark's fin soup. Can fight with Overseas Restaurant's Crab Meat Shark's Fin Soup in Jalan Imbi, which i hope i am able to blog about it if i get to visit there again some time soon :). Anyway, it has some chunky pieces of shrimps, & fish lips (it might seem revolting to some, but trust me, its chewy texture goes just well with the soup).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIVJauC21I/AAAAAAAAAEM/R_W_pHlNzQU/s400/Shark%27s+Fin.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292315763649207122" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIXhWKRIHI/AAAAAAAAAEc/ivnxA3ihVvY/s400/fish+lips.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292318373765521522" />

Then came the Steamed Pomfret with Soya Sauce, which was rather below the expectation as the meat at the outer part tasted quite dry, probably overcooked. Somehow, it went well with the soya sauce (& we can't be bitching about it in front of our boss, can we? :P )

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIWPJCGE8I/AAAAAAAAAEU/n57UfoxUXvU/s400/pomfret.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292316961492308930" />

We thought the fish was bad, until the Steamed Village Chicken with Kai Lan came. At one glance, it looks quite appealing. But the moment you sink your teeth into the chicken, you will be cursing the chef for presenting such a raw, uncooked poultry. I must say this dish is very the turn-off. Looking at this sad cock head, even he felt his sacrifice has gone to waste.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIYfhWDbJI/AAAAAAAAAEk/2771uQ2pbs0/s400/steamed+chicken.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292319441919634578" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIZYBXdOSI/AAAAAAAAAEs/2Hrx3PWZnOc/s400/chicken+head.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292320412588128546" />

Next, Baked Crystal Prawns with Butter. Again, this dish is relatively okay compared to many other restaurants. The butter clumps were very sweet, though. I think the sugar was not properly scattered.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIaOvJRrNI/AAAAAAAAAE0/vOOo9xA8ews/s400/butter+prawn.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292321352589618386" />

My favorite is the Dried Oyster with Black Moss. Probably because personally, i love eating dried oysters & black moss. Also, beneath the layers of the dried oysters & black moss was the wheat gluten, some sort of Min Gan (面筋), which happens to be my favorite too! For your information, this dish is called "Hou Si Fatt Choy (蚝士发菜） in Cantonese. It sounds like "Good news, Prosperity". No wonder i love it so much. LOL!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIbNiEcSGI/AAAAAAAAAE8/fzJyzrtHksQ/s400/hou+si+fatt+choy.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292322431411439714" />

Last main dish was the Fried Rice with Chinese Waxed Meat. Honestly speaking, we were all so stuffed that this dish did not attract us shit. We decided to screw this dish aside. So tak jadi makan la. But i did took a bite of it, and it is not bad, man!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SXIcmEbshLI/AAAAAAAAAFE/9AuJn_KWorU/s400/lap+mei+faan.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5292323952464266418" />

For the dessert, we had Snow Fungus with Gingko & Water Chestnut. Nothing to hoo-hah about la. The "Special Chinese Fancy Duet" was quite FANCY, though. It was a rabbit-shaped bun with lotus seed fillings, and the other was pandan-kaya roll. My family loves the Wantan Mee from Ho Weng Kee; we make it a point to tah-pau lunch from here almost every Sunday.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SVjXn-6LReI/AAAAAAAAABE/KxDIQqR8Q10/s320/hwk.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285211244621153762" />

Of course, as time went by, i have grown up and rounder. But the delicious Wantan Mee from Ho Weng Kee remains very much the same. Tahpau-ing lunch on Sundays is not a common thing for us now, but personally i still do come here for lunch on weekdays.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SVjV1QyyJzI/AAAAAAAAAAk/zRQpiovDcfQ/s320/chickenhwk.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285209273737029426" />

My favourite is definitely none other than their famous Chicken Feet with Mushroom Wantan Mee (Cantonese: Dong Gu Kai Keok Wantan Meen). It's RM 5.00 for standard and additional 50 cts for a upsize. It's worth the upsizing, trust me. :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 238px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SVjWLhH8i6I/AAAAAAAAAAs/KrzgMhMjT4I/s320/untitled.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285209656077880226" />

The Wantan Mee with Beef Brisket (in cantonese, it's called Ngau Nam Wantan Meen)is also highly recommended. But for me, i still like my beef brisket with Kueh Teow (you call for Ngau Nam Hor Fun instead). I used to whack two large portions of this for lunch back in my growing-up years.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 241px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SVjWV5tbl8I/AAAAAAAAAA0/8U4xR1cgQzM/s320/hwk2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285209834476246978" />

Some of you out there might want to give this wantan mee a try with their curry broth. It's RM 5.00 too, i think. Not really my favourite as i can't take spicy food.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 242px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_ynGHr-6rVp0/SVjWw1_yelI/AAAAAAAAAA8/ZsgIjouzedA/s320/hwk3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5285210297335970386" />

For those who wants side dishes, give their Pork Dumpling (Sui Gau) a try. With a minimum order of five (RM 4.50), it comes in a bowl of hot soup with spring onion garnishing. But on Sundays, you can only get Fried Sui Gaus, which is also my favourite.

I tell you, this Ho Weng Kee Restaurant serves Wantan Mee at daytime. Then come sunset, they switch mode to the hawker-style; Dai Chow (Big Stir, literally). I have never eaten there for dinner, but according to my friends who did, they serve Steamed Tilapia in Spicy Bean Sauce. Judging by the number of customers ordering this dish, rest assured this is definitely the choice for all. The fishes are definitely fresh too; caught and scaled only when an order is placed. Apart from the fish, the Steamed Egg is another must-try and so is the Four-Angle Beans cooked with Sambal Belacan. If eating alone, you can order individual meals or noodles. The Sweet & Sour Pork Rice is apparently the best.

Restaurant details:

Address:
32, Jalan SS2/66,
47300 Petaling Jaya
(Same row as Nam Heong Chicken Rice & Digi Centre)

Tel: 019-2156555

Closed on Tuesday. Daytime Wantan Mee, Nightime Hawker-style

Business Hours: 7 am - 10 pm (Closed on Tuesday)

Cuisine: Chinese

Pricing: 6/10

Cleanliness Factor: 6/10

Service: 6/10

Greetings from the Author

Hello there, i'm Jolly Humper, a true-blue food fanatic who has experienced all sorts of cuisine around Malaysia.

However, this is my first attempt to blog about food.
